Gutter installation cost calculator

Add up a gutter job from your own prices: gutter, downspouts, labor, add-ons and a contingency buffer.

Planning estimate: this is a planning estimate from the numbers you enter — not a bid or a contract. Gutter pricing depends on material, size, linear feet, guards, fascia condition, removal, height/access and local labor. A 110 ft job at $8.00/ft plus 3 downspouts, labor and add-ons is about $1,556.50 with 10% contingency. Enter the prices from your own quotes — a planning estimate, not a bid.

This is the whole-job number. Gutter, downspouts, labor and any add-ons, plus a contingency buffer for what the quote misses. Every dollar is yours — pull the figures off your estimate or bill. Nothing here is a bid.

Need the linear feet first? Measure your eave runs with the linear-feet calculator, size the gutter with the gutter size calculator, then bring the totals back here.

Formula

total = (linear_feet × $/ft + downspouts × $/downspout + labor + add-ons − discount) × (1 + contingency)

Gutter runs by the foot. Downspouts by the piece. Labor and add-ons are line items. The contingency multiplies the subtotal, so it covers the extras too.

Worked example

110 ft at $8/ft = $880 of gutter. 3 downspouts at $45 = $135. Labor $400. No add-ons, no discount. Subtotal $1,415. Add 10% contingency and the estimate is $1,556.50.

Push the price per foot to $12 (steel, long runs, two-story) and the same job jumps to about $2,046 — the price per foot is the biggest lever, so nail it down first.

Get the estimate right

What the base number misses. Corners, end caps and elbows add fittings, not much money. Fascia repair, rotten board replacement, old-gutter removal and two-story or steep access add real money — put them in add-ons, don’t bury them in the price per foot. That keeps your $/ft comparable to the labeled bands.

Waste and overage. Gutter is cut to fit, so buy a little extra for corners, drops and mistakes (~5–10%). The contingency covers cost overruns; if you also want material overage, add it to the linear feet before you price it.

Mixed runs. A house with a two-story back and a single-story front is really two jobs. Price the hard-access run at a higher $/ft or add it as an access add-on, rather than blending one rate across the whole house.

Removal vs replacement. Tearing out old gutter first? Use the replacement cost calculator, which prices removal by the foot on top of the new gutter.

Frequently asked questions

How much does gutter installation cost?

It depends on material, size, linear feet, guards, fascia condition, removal and access — which is why this tool asks for your prices. As a labeled sanity guide, installed aluminum runs about $4–13/ft and copper $25–40/ft. A typical 110-ft aluminum job with three downspouts, labor and a 10% buffer lands near $1,557.

What should I put in add-ons?

Anything beyond gutter and downspouts: leaf guards, fascia repair or replacement, old-gutter removal, and a surcharge for two-story or steep access. Keeping them separate lets you compare your price per foot to the labeled bands.

Is the contingency the same as sales tax?

No. The contingency is a buffer for surprises (a rotted board, an extra elbow, a longer run than measured). Tax, permit fees or dump fees are line items — add them to labor or add-ons if your quote lists them.

Does this include gutter guards?

Only if you add them. Price guards on their own with the gutter guard cost calculator, then drop the total into add-ons here.

Is this a quote?

No. It is a planning estimate from the numbers you enter — not a bid or a contract. Get itemized written quotes from licensed, insured gutter contractors before you commit.
